Thank you SO much for posting this! I just started knitting this week and I knew there had to be an easier way than pulling knots out for three hours, lol! ;)

I think your tutorial is fantastic! It really helped me, because no one addresses how to handle the rest of the skein while you are winding the ball.

I probably should have told you sooner, but I did reference your post on my blog - with a link to it. I hope you don't mind... If you do, I will certainly remove it. But since I found it so helpful, I figured others would as well! :)

[...] Another lesson I learned the hard way: what to do with a skien and how to wind a center pull ball! The first time I brought home a skein of yarn I was a little confused as how to actually use it… Thanks to Google, I found out that you need to wind it into a center pull ball. I found this nifty little video at knittinghelp.com. So I began and ended up with a complete ! The one thing that most of the tutorials I found online fail to mention is that you need to put the open skein around something (like the back of a chair, someones hands, your knees, a swift - if you are fortunate!, etc.) to keep it from turning into a tangled mess. Here is a good post I found about how to handle the skein. [...]

The RKG has a swift and winder. Come to the Guild meeting on September 5th. You can sit there during the meeting and wind your yarn!
